Hunger in Kenya

"Hunger in Kenya right after the rains" Ironic isn't it??

Well this is the unfortunate fact that is running in Kenya. The mere fact a person should die out of not eating a single meal for at least more than a week. How does that feel?On 22nd July 2011 members of parliament discussed the Akiwumi report which resides that MPs increase their salary from the current Ksh 851 000 to 1.1million which Ksh 227,861 is meant to stand for the taxes which they should pay.
This report also proposed that former MPs receive a pension of 1000USD per month.Note that all this is taking part while Kenyans are dying.

Some Ministers even have the audacity to go and visit the dying Kenyans. " Ati tulikuja kuona vile mnafanya?" while empty handed. Do your eyes produce milk for them??

Kenya has an engraved culture of aid dependency culture created since Independence. This is the other reason why these pastoralist families do not cultivate their land but hey would rather hunt and gather.the main question is drawn when farmers from Central province have recently started complaining that food is rotting in the market. That no one is buying potatoes yet the price of chips has even sky rocketed to 80bob.What misery!

Furthermore, the Government then seceded to  UN pressure to open the Kenya Somali Border and house close to 1,300 refugees streaming everyday. How do you host people into your house if you are starving? This is when my eyes were open and I realized that all this is mere politics.

Political leaders who are in power want to secure their finances for the coming election year. Recent opinion polls said that more than 60% of the current MPs should not be re-elected. Therefore, they are setting a headstart with financial might. According to News from Africa, UN released 16.5MUSD to fund refugee and food crises problem. The daily Nation Aug 1st said that the governemnet dished out 9billion to curb teh hunger issue. Where do you think most of this money will go to?Dabaab or just linger in Banks in Nairobi?

Kenya will also host an International conference on the famine in the region of the Horn of Africa said the Presidential Press Services. Frankly, I applaud this initiative because it seeks to The conference will seek emergency food requirements for the 14 million people requiring food relief in the Horn of Africa. The meeting will also support the opening of feeding camps inside Somalia in order to stop the influx of refugees to Kenya.

Another inititave which will definitely work is the Kenyans for Kenya. People are buying food stuffs and sending money to citizens who are willing to visit these dying families are being their very own Ben 10.

Question is will Kenya ever stop being an Aid dependent nation? Will we ever start planning for catastrophes such as these? Can the justice system do anything to curb embezzlers?
